RE: Formal Demand — Immediate Return of Passport (Unlawful Retention)
To the management of Sunrise Hospitality FZ-LLC:
I, Maria R., a national of the Philippines, employed by your establishment as a housekeeping supervisor, write to place you on formal notice that you are unlawfully retaining my passport, which has been in your possession since 3 February 2025 (last four digits: 4471).
Under Federal Decree-Law 33/2021 and Federal Law 6/1973, the passport is the personal property and identity document of the worker. The employer has no lawful basis to retain it. MOHRE has confirmed in successive directives that any retention is a violation, and the UAE courts have consistently ordered return.
I therefore formally demand that you return my passport to me in person within 7 days of the date of this letter, with no conditions attached, and confirm in writing that no retaliation, false absconding report, salary withholding, or work-permit cancellation will follow this demand. If you fail to do so, I will file a complaint with MOHRE and report the matter to the local police as unlawful retention of personal documents.
