What is this right?
India's National Cybercrime Reporting Portal at cybercrime.gov.in and the helpline 1930 are run by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The helpline's Citizen Financial Cyber Frauds Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS) is the only mechanism that can freeze funds before they leave the receiving bank — and it works only when you call within the "golden hour" after the transaction.
The portal handles two streams: financial frauds (UPI fraud, fake-KYC, OTP theft, investment scams, "digital arrest" impersonation) and other cybercrimes (hacking, ransomware, online harassment, child sexual abuse material under the IT Act and POCSO Act). Reports route to the local cyber police station of the State / UT where you reside.

When does it apply?
Anyone in India — citizen, foreigner, NRI — can file.
- Financial frauds: UPI / IMPS / NEFT / RTGS / card / wallet — report within the golden hour for the best chance of recovery.
- Non-financial cybercrimes: hacking, data theft, online stalking, fake profiles, ransomware, child sexual abuse material.
- Reports against unidentified accused are accepted — the police will investigate.
What to Do Immediately After a Cyber Fraud in India
- Dial 1930 immediately — within minutes of realising the fraud — to trigger the funds-freeze workflow.
- File a written complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. Choose "Report Financial Fraud" or "Report Other Cybercrime".
- Note your acknowledgement number. It is your reference for follow-up at the cyber police station.
- Attach screenshots, transaction IDs, bank statements, UTR / IMPS reference, fraudster's mobile or UPI handle, and call logs. The more digital evidence, the better.
- Report the unauthorised transaction in writing to your bank the same day — preserve the 3-working-day zero-liability window under the RBI Master Direction.
- Visit your local cyber police station within 24 hours to register a formal complaint / FIR if needed.
What should you NOT do?
- Do not delete WhatsApp / SMS / call logs with the scammer. They are evidence.
- Do not reply to the fraudster or engage with "you will get your money back if you pay ₹X" offers — that is a follow-on scam.
- Do not share your bank OTP, UPI PIN, or CVV with anyone claiming to help recover funds. No genuine recovery process requires these.
- Do not pay any "processing fee" or "tax" to anyone who calls promising to expedite the cybercrime case. I4C never charges.
- Do not delay. Each hour of delay reduces the chance of fund recovery sharply.
