What is this right?

Foreign workers in Oman can sponsor their family members to join them:

  • Eligible dependants: You can sponsor your spouse, children (under 21 or studying), and parents depending on your salary level.
  • Minimum salary: To sponsor a family, you typically need a minimum monthly salary of OMR 300 (amount may vary and is set by ROP regulations).
  • Spouse employment: Sponsored spouses can apply for a work permit separately if they find employment.
  • School-age children: Sponsored children have the right to enrol in schools in Oman.
  • Validity: Family visas are typically valid for 2 years, renewable as long as the sponsor remains employed.

When does it apply?

  • You are working in Oman and want your family to live with you.
  • Your family visa is about to expire and needs renewal.
  • Your sponsored spouse wants to work in Oman.

What should you do?

  • Apply for family visas through the ROP online portal or at an ROP office.
  • Provide required documents: marriage certificate, birth certificates, salary certificate, and proof of accommodation.
  • Ensure all foreign documents are attested by the Omani embassy in your home country.
  • Renew family visas before they expire to avoid fines.

What should you NOT do?

  • Do not bring family on visit visas with the intention of staying — apply for the correct family visa.
  • Do not let family visas expire — overstay fines apply to each family member individually.
  • Do not submit unattested documents — the ROP requires proper attestation and translation.
