What is this right?
Oman offers special residency options for investors and skilled professionals:
- Investor visa: Foreign investors who invest a minimum capital amount in approved sectors can obtain a long-term residency visa without an employer sponsor.
- Talent visa: Highly skilled professionals, researchers, and entrepreneurs may qualify for a talent residency permit that is not tied to a single employer.
- Property investment: Foreigners who purchase property in designated Integrated Tourism Complexes (ITCs) may qualify for a residency permit linked to the property.
- Retiree visa: Oman has introduced a retiree residency scheme for foreign nationals meeting income and health insurance requirements.
- Duration: Investor and talent visas are typically granted for 5 or 10 years, renewable.
When does it apply?
- You want to invest in Oman and live there without being tied to an employer.
- You are a skilled professional or entrepreneur seeking long-term residency.
- You have purchased property in an approved development in Oman.
What should you do?
- Check eligibility requirements through the Invest Oman portal or the ROP.
- Prepare all required documents: proof of investment, financial statements, qualifications, and a clean criminal record.
- Apply through the ROP or designated government portal.
- Maintain the minimum investment level throughout the residency period to keep your permit valid.
What should you NOT do?
- Do not assume residency is automatic — each category has specific requirements that must be met.
- Do not let your investment fall below the minimum — this can result in visa cancellation.
- Do not use the investor visa to employ others illegally — your business must comply with Omanisation and labour laws.
