Oman Overtime Pay Calculator (RD 53/2023)

Last verified:

Under Oman's Labour Law (Royal Decree 53/2023), normal working hours are capped at 9 hours per day or 45 hours per week. Any work beyond this must be compensated with premium overtime pay.

How the calculation works

Overtime Premium Rates

  • Daytime Overtime: 125% of your normal hourly basic wage.
  • Nighttime Overtime: 150% of your normal hourly basic wage.
  • Rest Days & Public Holidays: 150% of your normal hourly basic wage, PLUS another day off in lieu.
  • Ramadan: For Muslim workers, normal hours are reduced to 6 per day or 30 per week. Any hour beyond this is overtime.

What to do next

Recovering unpaid overtime

  1. Track your hours: Keep a personal log of all hours worked beyond the 9-hour daily limit.
  2. Compare with WPS: Ensure the overtime is reflected in the Wage Protection System transfers.
  3. File a complaint: Report violations to the Labour Care Department (80077000).

Worked example

Worked example

If your basic wage yields an hourly rate of OMR 2.00:
1 hour of daytime overtime = OMR 2.50 (125%).
1 hour on a Friday (rest day) = OMR 3.00 (150%) + a day in lieu.
