What is this right?

Qatar residents can sponsor immediate family members for dependent residence visas, subject to salary and housing requirements:

  • Eligible dependents: Spouse, children (sons under 18, or under 25 if studying; unmarried daughters any age), and parents.
  • Income requirement: Minimum salary of QAR 10,000/month to sponsor a spouse and children. Higher thresholds may apply for sponsoring parents.
  • Women sponsoring families: Women working in Qatar can sponsor their husband and children if they meet the income requirement — this was historically restricted but has been reformed.
  • Housing requirement: You must have suitable accommodation to sponsor dependents. MOI may verify housing adequacy.
  • Domestic workers: Families meeting income thresholds can sponsor domestic workers (housemaids, nannies, drivers). Applications are processed through MOI.

Fees: Dependent visa application: QAR 200-500. QID per dependent: QAR 200. Medical test: QAR 200-400/person. Health insurance: varies, typically QAR 2,000-8,000/year per person. Health card for government hospitals: QAR 100/year per person.

Processing time: Family visa approval: 1-3 weeks through Metrash2 or MOI service centres.

Required documents: Sponsor's QID and passport copy, employment contract and salary certificate, marriage certificate (attested by Qatar embassy and MOFA), birth certificates (attested), tenancy agreement.

When does it apply?

  • You hold a valid QID and earn at least QAR 10,000/month.
  • You want to bring your spouse, children, or parents to live with you in Qatar.

What to Do If You Want to Bring Your Family to Live in Qatar

  • Attest all foreign documents — marriage and birth certificates must be attested by the Qatar embassy in the issuing country, then legalised by the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
  • Apply through Metrash2 or visit an MOI service centre for dependent visa applications.
  • Obtain health cards for dependents at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) or arrange private health insurance.
  • Register children in school promptly — school enrollment may be required for dependent visa renewal.

What should you NOT do?

  • Do not bring family on visit visas and overstay — apply for proper dependent visas.
  • Do not submit unattested documents — MOFA attestation is mandatory.
  • Do not forget to renew dependent QIDs — they expire with the sponsor's QID and late renewal carries fines.
