UAE Federal Law
What is this right?
The UAE Golden Visa grants 10-year renewable residency without the need for a traditional employer sponsor:
- Eligible categories: Investors (AED 2 million+ in property or business), entrepreneurs, skilled professionals earning AED 30,000+/month, outstanding students, scientists, doctors, engineers, and creative talent.
- Self-sponsorship: Golden Visa holders can sponsor themselves — they do not need an employer or family sponsor.
- Family inclusion: You can sponsor your spouse, children (regardless of age), and parents on your Golden Visa.
- Unlimited stay abroad: Unlike regular residency visas, the Golden Visa does not expire if you stay outside the UAE for more than 6 months.
- Business flexibility: Golden Visa holders can own 100% of a business on the UAE mainland without a local partner.
When does it apply?
- You meet one of the eligible categories for the Golden Visa.
- You want long-term residency in the UAE without being tied to an employer.
- Applications are open to all nationalities.
What should you do?
- Check your eligibility on the ICP website or through the GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs) in your emirate.
- Apply online through the ICP smart services portal or the GDRFA portal for Dubai.
- Prepare supporting documents: passport, current visa, Emirates ID, salary certificate or investment proof, educational certificates, and professional licences.
- Nominate your dependents during the application to include them on your visa.
What should you NOT do?
- Do not use fraudulent documents — applications are thoroughly verified and fraud can result in a permanent ban.
- Do not forget to renew — the Golden Visa is valid for 10 years but must be renewed before it expires.
- Do not assume all investments qualify — only certain property and business investments meet the minimum thresholds.
