What is this right?
Oman has introduced targeted long-term residency options, though it does not have a traditional permanent residency program:
- Golden Residency (10 years, renewable — effective 1 September 2025): Oman relaunched its investor residency as a Golden Residency with a single unified threshold of OMR 200,000 (approximately USD 520,000) across seven qualifying routes: (1) real estate in Integrated Tourism Complexes (ITCs) with a valid title deed, (2) government development bonds held for 2+ years, (3) listed equities meeting the threshold, (4) a 5-year fixed deposit of OMR 200,000+ in a local bank, (5) ownership of a company employing 50+ Omanis with capital above OMR 200,000, (6) registration of a company under Oman's foreign investment law (allowing nomination of partners/senior professionals), or (7) combined qualifying investments. Self-sponsored, includes family. This replaces the earlier tiered OMR 250,000 / OMR 500,000 program.
- Silver Residency (5 years, renewable): A lower-threshold option introduced alongside the Golden Residency for investors meeting reduced capital or property thresholds, with a narrower scope of sponsored dependants.
- Talented Residency: For skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and innovators who meet specific criteria set by the relevant ministries. Self-sponsored, renewable. Duration varies based on the talent category.
- Standard work visa (2 years, renewable): Employer-sponsored, can be renewed indefinitely as long as employment continues. The most common form of residence for foreign workers.
- No traditional PR: Oman does not offer a permanent residency card or indefinite leave to remain comparable to Western immigration systems. The Investor Residency is the closest equivalent.
Fees: Investor Residency: OMR 500-2,000 (varies by category and duration). Talented Residency: OMR 200-500. Standard visa renewal: OMR 50-100/year.
Processing time: Investor Residency: 4-8 weeks through the Invest Easy portal. Talented Residency: 4-8 weeks.

- For Investor Residency: Apply through the Invest Easy portal (investeasy.gov.om) with proof of qualifying investment.

- Prepare required documents: passport, current visa (if in Oman), investment proof or professional credentials, medical examination, and criminal background check.

- Do not forget to renew — even long-term visas have expiry dates.
About Immigration Pathways in Oman
Oman immigration runs on the Foreigners Residence Law (Royal Decree 16/1995) and the current Labour Law (Royal Decree 53/2023). The Royal Oman Police (ROP) handles residency; the Ministry of Labour handles work permits. The Investor Residency programme under Royal Decree 6/2021 offers 5-10 year visas, and the Talented Residency programme targets skilled professionals. You can switch employers via a Labour Clearance Card. Apply through the ROP portal, Invest Easy, or the Ministry of Labour portal. For your protections, see Immigration Rights.
